The opening ceremony was officiated by (from left) Ir. Edmund LEUNG, Mr. Nicholas HO, Commissioner for Belt and Road, Prof. Herman HU, Honorary Chairman of BRP, P.rof. Simon HO, President of Hang Seng University, and Jason LEUNG, Chief Executive Officer of Yan Chai Hospital.
On April 26, 2025, "My Interfaces with the Belt and Road" Comprehensive Ability Competition was successfully held at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. This event was organized by Belt and Road Pioneer, co-organized by the HK Professional and Senior Executives Association, the Federation of New Territories Youth, and various departments or organizations of multiple universities including The Chinese University of H, City University of HK, and Chu Hai College. It was also supported by numerous institutions, such as the Education Bureau of HK, the HK Financial Services Development Council, the HK Productivity Council, and Yan Chai Hospital. Nearly 400 people have participated in the event.
Since its inception, this event has entered its eighth year. Except for a one-year suspension due to the COVID pandemic, it has always kept pace with the country's Belt and Road Initiative, committed to exploring opportunities for Hong Kong youth. The event has actively echoed the goals of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction, continuously strengthening elements of scientific innovation and green sustainable development and sketching a promising blueprint for the youth.
The event officially kicked off in the morning. Mr. Nicholas HO, the Belt and Road Commissioner, delivered a keynote speech, inspiring the young people present. He cited a series of vivid cases of Hong Kong enterprises successfully entering overseas markets under the Belt and Road Initiative. For example, several enterprises have developed online digital banking and database businesses in the Southeast Asia, and some others have successfully launched operations in the Middle East and Central Asia. These examples enabled the youth to profoundly feel the broad prospects brought by the Belt and Road Initiative. Commissioner Ho also took this opportunity to encourage the teenagers to bravely engage in the Initiatives and discover their own positions in the tide of development, realizing their personal values.

Mr. Bernard CHAN, Founding Honorary Chairman of BRP, cheered on the contestants via video.
Bernard CHAN, the Founding Honorary President of the Belt and Road Pioneer, was unable to attend the launching ceremony in person due to official business. However, via video, he motivated the contestants, conveying his high expectations for them. Herman HU, the Founding Honorary Chairman, encouraged everyone on-site to seize the development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative, make advance preparations on knowledge and skills, and get prepared for future development. Professor Simon HO, the President of Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, as the representative of the venue sponsor, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. He expressed sincere gratitude for the support from all parties and encouraged the youth to seize the opportunities of the times and courageously pursue their dreams.
After the launch ceremony, the lecture session began. Professor Terence CHONG of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Raymond CHAN, the Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost of Lingnan University, Dr. MA Jun, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association, Professor Simon HO, the President of Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and Dr. Wilson CHAN conducted in-depth analyses on the four major themes of "Silk Road”, "GBA ", "IT", and "Green”. Through a series of real and vivid cases, the experts explained many important aspects in a simple and understandable way: under the Belt and Road Initiative, how the China-Europe Railway Express promotes trade growth along the routes with its efficient transportation capacity, demonstrating a new model of trade cooperation; the remarkable achievements in scientific and technological innovation in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, reflecting the strong economic development potential of the GBA; the broad prospects for application of artificial intelligence in various fields such as healthcare, education, and finance, revealing the huge opportunities contained in scientific and technological innovation; and the strong support of green finance for the environmental protection industry, highlighting the importance of green sustainable development. The youth benefited a great deal from this wealth of knowledge and profound insights.
After the lectures, the intense competition stage officially started. The competition was divided into two stages: the preliminary round and the final round. The preliminary round, an online quiz, tested the contestants' knowledge of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area comprehensively. Five teams from both the Senior Secondary Students Division and Tertiary Division with the highest scores in the preliminary round advanced to the final round, where they had to simulate applying for management positions in a Hong Kong enterprise at Southeast Asia, and propose an investment plan along the Belt and Road or relevant job-application ideas.

The three students from Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School, who won the championship in the senior secondary school category, received awards from Prof. Herman HU, Honorary Chairman of BRP (first from left), Ms.Jasmine LEE, Managing Partner for EY Hong Kong and Macau (second from right), and Mr. Benny CHUNG, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Professional and Senior Executives Association.
After an intense competition, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School won the championship in the Inter-school Senior Secondary Students Division, while Po Leung Kuk Ho Yuk Ching (1984) College and Diocesan Girls' School were ranked first and second runners-up. In the Tertiary Division, students from the Hong Kong Baptist University College of International Education were crowned as the champion, students from the University of Hong Kong came in second-place, and students from the HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College took the third place.
Ms. Wendy CHEUNG, teacher from Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School, said, "This event does not only enable the students to have an in-depth understanding of the development opportunities of the BRI and the Greater Bay Area, but it also prompts them to seriously consider how to integrate themselves into the national development strategies, which is of great significance for their future planning."
Winners of the competition have been invited to visit Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Cambodia in the past. The event organizer revealed that this practice will be followed, with the award-winning students arranged to visit Laos this Summer in order to broaden their horizons. Looking ahead, it is hoped that such events can continue to be organized, aiming to assist the younger generations in Hong Kong to better integrate into the national development strategies, realize their own potentials on the stage of the times, and create a better future.
